Stories from the Steppe: Finding My Rhythm in the Mongolian Taiga
By Tristan Lee
Beyond the Horizon
Coming from the neon-lit, vertical world of Hong Kong, stepping into Mongolia doesn’t just feel like a vacation; it feels like stepping into a different dimension. It is a profound shift from a life governed by clocks and concrete to one dictated by the seasons, the wildlife, and the ancient pulse of the land.
Mongolia offers a rare glimpse into how life should be lived: in total harmony with nature. There is a raw, unfiltered beauty here that challenges your perspective. Between the stunning landscapes and the rich tapestry of history, you realize that tradition isn't just something in a museum; it is a living, breathing way of existence.

Into the Heart of the Taiga
The Taiga has always been a dream of mine, a place of myth and rugged beauty. Witnessing it firsthand was a once-in-a-lifetime experience that is nearly impossible to put into words. In the Taiga, you don't just see the landscape; you feel it.
The Transition: Swapping subway chimes for the sound of livestock and the wind through the larch trees.
The History: Immersing myself in an ancient culture that remains anchored in tradition despite the passage of centuries.
The Beauty: A raw, unfiltered aesthetic that forces you to be present in every single moment.

A Legacy of Hospitality
What I will carry with me most, beyond the visual splendor, is the warmth of the people. The hospitality I encountered in such a remote corner of the world is something I will never forget. Their traditional way of life is a masterclass in resilience and kindness. In a place where nature is so powerful, the kindness of the people is the ultimate warmth. They live with a grace and a connection to their heritage that is both humbling and inspiring.
"Being surrounded by so much beauty is hard to describe.
All I can say is it’s something you have to experience at least once in your life."
I’ve left a piece of my heart in the Taiga, but I’ve brought back a new understanding of what it means to be truly "home" on this planet.
